Welcome back to Soleil Space's Short FIlm Saturdays! This week, we chat with Colombian filmmaker, Sofia Camargo. Her latest short film Al lado del río (By the River), 2019, was awarded the Official Selection Jury Award by the The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP), was part of the Official Selection of the Cartagena International Film Festival 2020 and selected as a Vimeo Staff Pick. During her MFA Camargo was a Purin Foundation Scholar and a recipient of la beca del Fondo de desarrollo cinematográfico de Proimágenes. She also received the Nikon Storytellers Scholarship 2018, the Jeff Lima Production Award 2020 and the Black Family Price 2022
Sofia Camargo is a New York based filmmaker, born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. She holds a BA in Anthropology and Art History from Universidad de los Andes and an MFA in Film from New York University. Her work as a filmmaker explores women and domestic life through a deeply textured, sensual yet disquieting storytelling.
